While new rave might be big business in the UK, it has some catching up to do in the States. Which is why the Riff Raff Crew are still doing their thing below ground, rather than headlining NME tours. “It’s a small party—100 or so folks—and we always try to have them in basements.” But while most smiley-faced followers are paying tribute to the rave look and not the actual sound, this threesome is strictly ‘ardcore, rocking the music they discovered from Jumpin Jack Frost bootlegs bought on Canal Street all those years ago. “We all got into old skool breakbeat because it wasn’t like anything we grew up listening to. It was fresh and exciting— and it still is!”
